@ PhotoShoot is my Blog on Amateur Photography. (Snapshot is my Learning Blog.) I was bitten by the Photography bug, thanks to my elder brother, 30 years back. He gave me a permanent loan of a Pantax K1000, SLR (I actually still have it), and I purchase a 80 -200 zoom lens.

For the next 3 years while studying in Switzerland, I was shooting a roll of 36 every month, on top of being the school photographer. That cost me SFr 50 per month inclusive of Printing 3R photo and the Flim. (SFr 1 = RM 1.40 at that time), which is almost my entire monthly allowance.

I stop when I came back to Malaysia and started working, as my Pay check is barely enough to cover expenses and other priority like car, dating and family came up.

Now with the maturity of Digital Cameras, gives me the opportunity to restart this hobby at affordable price. Low price camera from Lelong.com, A blog to share the photograph, instead of printing it out, have brought the cost of this hobby down though it still costs for memory cards, storage, batteries, and the prints you do actually need etc.

The Fuji FinePix S5700, while not being a DSLR, is a extremely capable camera considering it price, It’s 10 X Optical and 4.8 X Digital zoom with 7.1mp give it the ability to reach out and shoot candid shots with out your target being aware of it even in low light condition. Though it picture can be a bit grainy, but better a slightly grainy shot then loss memories.

I achieve this slightly grainy and shaky photo, with the “target” around 200 meters away with all the zooms being set on maximum ie 10X Optical and 5 X Digital, (which frankly is not a good idea), further It’s a hand held shot with out any support.

2nd Day of tbe Chinese New Year

Am Back at work today, this is one of the negetive side to working in the Hospitality Industry. But right now at my current place and position it is not too bad, at least i can get the eve and the 1st day off.

20 years ago when i start off working in this line, dont even imagine to take off on any of the festive days.

How did I spend my two days off. Well, On the eve, started travelling early 10am back to my parents house and dump my family there. Then it was off to purchase a printer, a HP F380 all in one, (i will blog on this later) and back home to wait for the dinner( roast duck), which started at 7.30pm, once that was finish, it was off to my wife parents, for the 2nd dinner of the night (steamboat) and once that was over back home to my parents place to spend the night. .

On Chinese New Year, after wishing my parents, it was off to my wife parents place, before dropping by a few reletive and then back to my parents place to recuprate.

Today, a early start to get back home and report to work. Now a days i do not enjoy the New Year at all. Work Work, come home more work, decorating and cleaning and frankly now a days there is no more festive mood at all. Also things are costing a bomb now a days, and Chinese New Year is getting more expensive and the pay packet remains the same....

Time to restart blogging

After a stop of a few months it time for me to restart my blogging. . . Well why did I stop in the first place . . 1) Got bored with up loading photos one at a time . . . 2) Work, been a buzy end of the year and no time to blog . . . 3) Slip and fell in my own bath room and crack my left thigh bone . . . 4) in Editing the blog so it look nice and eazy to read! . . . That resulted in a 4 day Hospital stay and 6 weeks of MC. more of that in the future. i hope

Cost of Living

Looks like we are in for another round of price increase soon. I am still feeling the effects of the last price increase. Fuel prices will be increasing soon, (a newspaper report say) to RM 2.50 per liter from the current rate. That I am sure will cause prices for all goods and services to go up, especially hawker food. Toll is also going up soon. Even if the price do not go up, the portion size is reduce to compensate, as such instead of one portion is enough, one portion is now not enough.

Then the ppl in power will advice again, “buy essential good, buy wisely and cheaper items only. “ well we have been hearing that for a few times now, for those who have listen to the advice the first time, it may make the difference, but how many time can a person cut down.

The last time this was said, I was already down to buy house brand goods, from the hypermarts. Do you notice the House Brand items, while cheaper do not measure up to the normal brands. (Note: I am not talking on the premium brands) it is either smaller in size, or the quality sucks. .

Need some better advice then that. Anyone care to give suggestions or even location where one can get cheaper goods.

Well what can one do to decrease cost of living now a days? .

.

1. I compare and find which hypermart give me more bang for the RM, in general which is cheaper and to buy from that one Hyper mart only I will not travel to multiple places to get the items I need as that would result in spending more in petrol, then I try to cut down trips to hyper marts and purchase in bulk, down to twice a month, and trying to go to once a month.

2. Cut down trips in general, no joy ride trips, go to work and then back in the most direct and non jam road, leave earlier or later to avoid jam. No weekly trip for recreation or cinema. Accelerate Slowly, anticipate slow down, so do not step on accelerator etc . My Wira 1.3 aeroback manual, gives me around 300km to 350 km for RM 50 now.

3. Just purchase a Electrical Saver Devise, which claims to cut down electricity by 30%, (I hope) for just RM40 via lelong, at the local Hypermart it cost RM200+ (different brand though) will blog on it and see if it works. Currently electrical bill is around RM65 – RM 80 monthly. 30% of that will be RM15. so hopefully bill will come in at RM50 to RM65.

4. Do not use Air Con, only Fans. .

5. Am trying to purchase items such as clothing’s via internet, Just purchase 2 pants, took 1 month, for it to arrive, the guy ran out of stock, for RM40 each, quality is just not there. I think purchasing trough Internet may cut down you cost, just that it is too much guess work, you cannot examine quality over the net, and scams make me vary. .

Well it will definitely affect my blogging, Food cost more, Petrol Cost more, so less food reviews, I have not even started on my Travels side so now no traveling.

With me being an IT type person, and having gone through 2 Lap Tops and 3 Desk Top purchase with my own hard earn money, in 20 years, it was a matter to time for me to start Blogging.

Surfing through blog made me realize that I do not want to reveal all my aspect of my life to strangers, and surfing through Penangites Blog reveal all are talking on Food, made me want to do some thing different. Well this blog will be indeed talking on food (that being unescapeable being a penangite), what is different will be this blog is from the view point of a Penangite going through life with interest in Food, Tourism Industry and what is happening in Penang and Malaysia.

Advice by IT industry persons lead me to blogger, and starting it off was easy. However my 4 year old 3.1 mp camera, seem to be consuming 4AAA batteries every 2 useable snaps. So it was time to purchase a new camera. What brand and model will be my choice, within a Budget of RM500? Well, branded camera is price above RM700. Non Branded, well I better not try again, and having a separate device to bring around, well no, then what about a hybrid which can do a few things, half well.

Having been a gadget addict, I was always interested in Computer Games, Mp3/4 Player, Camera, Organizer and Handphone, But being a Makan Gaji (Salary) person with 2 young daughters, buying gadgets such as this is 1) unaffordable 2) simple way to start a argument at home with my wife.

But is it possible to have all of the above in one package and affordable, surfing the net lead to Motorola, Nokia, and Sony handphones. Motorola 3Vi look interesting and affordable, but remembering the difficulty of operating one before and that handphone hang on me in two months and flip phones (I am all thumbs), No, I will not want to experience that one again. Nokia, solid products, good operating system but the Price factor Kick in, Suitable Models are all above RM900+. In my experience Sony, have good reputation for good products especially for camera and music player , and I have not use a Sony phone before.

Talking to a colleague lead me to Sony K750i, a model that came out in Y2005, ie having being around for 2 years, 2mp still camera, can record video, play MP3, have FM Radio, Play some Games (java), and have some simple organizer function, with expendable memory up to 2MB, 9 hrs talk time or 400hrs standby, with bluetooth, all For RM6XX, seem to outweigh it’s disadvantage which is it require a Special Charger and a Special Memory Card. By using this Blog as an excuse, it will be possible to purchase this phone with out stirring the bee hive to much.

I am now waiting for this Handphone, to be delivered, hopefully it will work out. In the future the Hand Phone Story & Experience and more candid photos will appear in this blog soon. Hopefully this hand phone will last me till the wimax come on line where I am staying.
