Jalan Delima Makan

I have not have dinner in this area (Jalan Delima, Island Glade) for a long time, to be accurate before I started blogging, and surprise surprise, the place where i had tim sum with my cousin is no longer there (not that i wanted a bite there) In fact before I took my cousin there, it was even a longer time, 15 + years.
.
.

The Old Coffee Shop (Near the 4 D shop)

This area use to be a favourite of my family, long a go. Why did we not come back here? Traffic and timming i guess. Getting there is a hassle from Ayer Itam and Tg Bungah and cannot find proper car park, but its sure convenient if you are comming in from the Main land.

. .

. Any way there is a new coffee shop, in this block of Shops, Everthing looks new, I did not get the name by the way, but in general the food here is good. (By the way, I came here on the Night of 7th of March 2008. Just pre elections)

This is what Penang lang call Laksa, Thick Round Rice Noodles in a Sourish (Asam) base fish soup with Prawn Paste. The Best I tasted for a long time. Yum!

Chee Chong Fun, Rice Roll, with Prawn / Shrimp Paste and Chillie, No Tee Chong Please, (Sweet Sauce) Yum! Again Nice and Thick Sauce, Best I tasted in a long time.

Tim Sum, Lots of Selection and its good.

Roast Duck Rice, Urg! One of the worst i ever tasted, I thought it good with around 20 ducks hanging, but it tasted like cardboard, overcook, dry, and Pricy

Hokkian Mee, Good. Please Note: Penangnite terms of food is different from other states, to them this is Prawn Mee.

I was sitting next to a Claypot Rice Stall, View of entrance.

The Decoration in a Coffee Shop, Wodden Spoons and Fork.

Well worth a vist for those who is looking of Penang food all in one place, Lots of Verity, Real Street Food, Just Horrible Parking!. For those of you comming in from Mainland, turn of the Highway just after Tesco, turn left at the frist traffic light, and turn left again. You will see a block of shop house, That the place

Hokkian Mee with a Twist

Let me introduce you to a Penang Dish that is not that well know, or shell i say a Penang Food that is presented in a different manner. I would say most people know about Penang Hokkian Mee Soup, or Prawn Mee Soup as it is know in the rest of the country. Well would you know of a dish call Hokkian Ta, Literal translation as Hokkian Dry?
.
Well this is Hokkian Ta, Just like Hokkian mee Soup, but there is very little soup, which is very concentrated, and garnish with pork ribs, shrimps and all the usual stuffs and Braised Chicken Feet. Also very different from the Singapore Version.
.
.

This was introduce to me about 2 years back, and that is the first i seen this dish. My reaction was what is this? After having it, I should say that it is Hokkian mee presented differently, but it has a charm on its own.

.

Well for those of you who would like to try it out, here are the following information.

The Coffee Shop which is the Home of Hokkian Ta

Where can you go for a breakfast that include Eggs and Ham? A Hotel? Just drop by at New Garden Coffee Shop, Just opposite the Pulau Tikus Catholic Church / Convent School, along Burma Road.
You will have a large choice for breakfast only as the Coffee Shop operates principally in the Morning, In fact this is the Coffee Shop I come to if I bring Outstation Friends for Breakfast, as it offers one of the widest range and good food. For me, My first choice here is the curry mee here.
This Coffee Shop is one of the Best in Town for.

One of the Best Sor Hor Fun in Town can be found in this Coffee shop, My wife say it is the number 1 for Hor Fun. Sor Hor Fun is a dish of Fried Rice Noodles, which is top with a Seafood, Vegetable and Egg(optional) gravy.
One of the Best Curry Mee in Town, (to me this is the Place for Curry Mee) , Yellow Noodles, and Thin Rice Noodles (Bee Hoon) in Curry Gravy topped with cockles, brown cuttle fish, Pig Blood Pudding, Vegetables, Fish Ball, and dont forget the Thick Chillies Sauce.
A Bowl of Hokkian Noodles (Penang Prawn Noodles Soup for those not from Penang), with a Mix of Hokkian / Loh gravy. Rating In the top 80%. Well in this Coffee Shop most of the items are good with the exception of Char Koey Teow.
Apom, Sold in a Roadside Stall just next to the Coffee Shop. Pretty Decent Apom for those who eat it. I don't usually consume this stuff.
Other Special Items at this Coffee Shop,
Rasa Rasa Penang rate the Wan Ton Mee Here as the top in Penang, I agree, but the couple selling the mee do not customise your order, Just order the standard version.
About the only place that sell Banana Pancake that i know off.
Note: This coffee shop is Busy, Expect to share a table, or come early before 8pm, after that it will get pack and after 11pm, well items will be sold out.
