Excellent Koey Teow Th'ng at Nibong Tebal, Penang

Penang Culinary Experience is found every where, Usually on the Island, but once in a while you can find them on the main land. Some how or other, Mainland Penangites seem to get to enjoy nice Koey Teow Th'ng, (Flat Rice noodles in Soup), This Kopi Tiam at Jalan Siong, Nibong Tebal sells only Koey Teow Th'ng and it is excellent.

The Dish is made with fresh ingredients such as prawns, pork meat ball and others parts as well, a Normal will set you back by RM3.50 and a Special by RM5.00 (thought with the price increase of noodles you may have to pay more). Kindly note that this is the only dish avaliable here so if you want some thing else sorry.

How to find this place you ask? Nibong Tebal is a pretty small town so it's not to difficult, If you enter town from the North, which is via the Railway Station, (tosai), Keep to your left, and near the end of the main road (way pass the Maybank) there is a small lane on the left, (lorong Siong) which is one way, drive up that lane till close to the end.

I was send a SMS, during The Chinese New Year that Mr Chung Four D, Mr Chung To To, and Mr Chung Magnum will be paying a visit to Me, But Not Mr Chung Sa Man What is ment was that the sender hope that I will strike (Chung = Strike) a betting number, with wither 4D, Magnum or Toto, but not to Get a saman during the festive period.

Well a Mr Chung Four D, visited one of my Office Colleagues, and to celebrate this occasion it was off to the restaurant for a meal. Chang Kee was close on this day, as such it was Swee Garden.

. . It was about 45min before the food arrive. Total Damage, RM90 for the three of us. Food was excellent. . . .

Comment: Some how or other, people seem contented to wait at normal coffeeshop or restaurant, but once they go to a Hotel or Proper Coffee House or Restaurant they will start making complaints on having to wait for food. I wounder why. .

What is this building use for?

I saw this building in Nibong Tebal, Main Road. It look old for sure, but nicely done up. What is it use for? It look like a garage for a car, but a double story garage? The Doors hight goes right to the roof. For a double decker car? Never heard of such a car, a double decker bus yes, but not a car, however this building is not long enough for a bus. Can any one help?

I notice that a good number of hit to my blog were looking for Nibong Tebal Firefly or Sungai Kelian Firefly, so I decided to do a bit of research on this subject. This lead me to a flyer from what is know as the Seberang Prai Eco-Tourism Development Council, which highlighted among others, the Nibong Tebal Railway Station Tosai I have blog about, the firefly of Sungai Kelian, Octopus catching, a 100 year old wooden church, among others.

As I understand there is a annual water festival “The Sungai Kerian Festival” is held in this area hosted in turns by Kedah, Perak & Penang as this is the place where the three state meet.

Nibong Tebal, Tosai

I am always looking around for good food, especially in places where i can park with out any problems. I was inform by locals that there is an exceptionally good Tosai, (Indian Pancake) available at the Nibong Tebal Railway station for breakfast some time back. My chance came recently while passing by Nibong Tebal. On the old Trunk Road in to Nibong Tebal at the Fly Over going in to the town, you will notice a small train station, (Note: As you turn left to get in to the town while comming down the fly over, it is on your right. There is no signboard ) The Tosai Stall is in the Station it self.

First Impression is that it must be exceptional to get customers in such a out of the way place. There was a table of 8 Chinese, Locals I believe. Service is Fast, our order was taken and our Plates Arrive.

The Plates is Banana Leaf, (real traditional style) and the accompaniments (see below) were, dhal curry, chutney, and by special request fish curry. The Tosai, arrive one at a time, were crispy, fluffiness and with the right amount of sourness.

As this is my second breakfast for the day, i took only one, my friends took 2 each, Every Bite was wonderful. Oh yes before I forget, You get to eat with your hands. I don't get to eat tosai every day, or even every year. It is a Rare dish to find and it is even harder to get a good tosai. Cost of 5 Tosai, with Fish Curry, 3 Hot Drinks, RM6.60 total, in a atmosphere Old Railway Station.

A real Railway station, not like the Fake Railway Station at Victoria Station. Well with the Northern Double Tracking about to begin. I strongly suggest those who want to try this tosai out, to drop by soon. Because once works begin, this tosai seller will have to move some where or will shut down.
