Happy Thaipusam

Thaipusam (Tamil: தைப்பூசம்) (or Thai Poosam Kavady) is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community in Malaysia on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (usually in Jan/Feb for the rest of us).
.
.
The festival commemorates both the birthday of Lord Murugan (also Subramaniam), the youngest son of Shiva and Parvati, and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (lance) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman.
.
.
Generally during the festival, people who has take a vow to offer a kavadi or other to the Lord for purpose of tiding over or averting a great calamity, will do so usually at Batu Caves, KL, Selangor, or at Waterfall in Penang or at nearby Temples.

To all my Indian/Tamil friends and readers, Happy Thaipusam
