Lorong Selamat Char Koey Teow

Reputed at the Best Char Koey Teow in Town, a blog recently comment that the stall move shop just a few shop a way in a new coffee shop, As i was in town and need a urgent fix of char koey teow, i drop by and try out the new shop.

Now is this the original char koey teow? I am a bit, 50 50 to say either way, though to me it that this stall have loss some taste, but it look like the same person cooking it, and charcoal fire is use. I only been here once. It's still good, (dont get me wrong) but a bit lacking in taste on this day.

I like the new coffee shop though, its clean. I had the normal Char Koey Teow which is 50% more then what us penangite usually pay for char koey teow. ;-) as the special is just only extra prawns and stuff. A bit disappointing is the lack of Cockles. which to me is the highlight of Char Koey Teow.

How to get here?, simple, look for the UMNO Building, or the Pakistan Mosque, Lorong Selamat is just next to the UMNO Building.

.

I will need to confirm by trying out the stall at the original shop.

Hi, Edmond here from Betel Nut Chronicles. I can confirm that the stall has indeed shifted a few shops away from the former place in Lorong Selamat. It is the same lady who dons a red beret and plastic gogles. Apparently, they bought up that premise. At the old coffee shop, where the ice kacang stall is, there is a new man serving up quite nice Char Koay Teow too. Frankly speaking, both this new stall and the red beret lady's char koay teow is not the best in Penang. The best Char Koay Teow can be found at Kimberley Street at night. It is called Ah Leng's char koay teow and it is located outside the Bee Hooi Coffee Shop (not to be mistaken with the Bee Hooi in Pulau Tikus).
Now, Ah Leng's Char Koay Teow is what I call char koay teow with SOUL. You have to taste it to understand what I mean.
Anyway, cheers, and hope you come visit me at my blog http://betelnutchronicles.blogspot.com

Thanks for the comfirmation, i remember the red hat and the "spec", but was she standing on a stool? That was the part i cannot remember.

The other guy wore a diving mask on the day i was there.

Funny you mention on Ah Leng Char Koey Teow at Kimbley Street, because my next post is on Ah Leng Kimbley Street Char Koey Teow but at a different location! Dato Keramat, opposite Federal Place. :-)

Seen your blog, pushing on penang tourism, well me too, Once a Penang lang always a Penang lang
Bye

Will drop by and try the one you mention.

Hey, thanks for visiting my blog. :-) You are right. The Ah Leng char koay teow at Federal is actually his brother. Now who is the real Ah Leng, I don't know. Hahahaha. But apparently, both are equally impressive. Oh, when you are the Kimberley Bee Hooi, please try the Tai Loke Mee at the shop next to Ah Leng. The sauce is simply magical and it sort of seeps softly into the tongue and pallete like honey from heaven. Aiyo, lao nuah liao.
Cheers, Edmond
